shopping for goodies
on monday, i was in a store for about 15-30 minutes making sure that i was picking the products that were right for me and suited my tastes- taking note of aesthetics, dates, ingredients, quality and quantity. i like to take my time when shopping for particular things.
once i had chosen my 4 or 5 items for purchase, i made my way to the checkout counter looking along the aisle for anything else that i may have missed along the way. recognizing me when i reached the counter, the attendant smiled and began to ring me up. my total came to about $198- cool. as i reached for my wallet to retrieve my card, the attendant smiled again, said something that i couldn’t quite make out, and then punched a few more buttons on the cash register. when i looked up, my total had come down to $147.
with a raised eyebrow and a quizzical smile, i alluded to my total being $198 only 5 seconds before. he smiled again and said, “don’t worry about it”- and then it hit me. i have been shopping at this store for so long and recently so often that i now receive discounts on adult videos!
oh, lawd you should have seen the expression on my face when i came to this realization. my first thought was, “i hope he’s not hitting on me.” and then, “wait… how many movies have i actually bought from this place?” and then i just began to laugh uncontrollably. i was laughing so hard i could barely sign the receipt. i wasn’t embarrassed in the least (well, maybe a bit), but it was more that i just found the whole interaction really hilarious. on one hand- cool, ‘cuz videos are really expensive, but on the other… who gets register discounts on porn? it’s like you have coupons.. and that’s heavy!
