there’s nothin’ like a temp assignment to spice up the boredom of unemployment.
last week i got a call from a temp agency asking if i’d be interested in a little work. knee deep in recession debt, i damn near jumped through the phone to accept. y’all have no idea how much i need to be on somebody’s payroll right now. after hearing the wage (thank you jesus!) and assignment details, i found myself extremely grateful, but kinda scared given how much excel was involved (building databases), and how long it’s been since i’ve really looked at a spreadsheet.
friday was my first day. i went to test out the position, and ended up having a pretty difficult day. many of the functions i needed to perform were above my level of expertise and experience. by friday’s end, i decided not to return on monday; but after getting some very good advice from a few friends (weekend excel refresher) and realizing that God won’t bring you to something he can’t bring you through, i made sure to show up bright and early monday morning. this week has been much better! i’m learning A LOT and am getting a great deal of work done. the challenge of creating working databases is quite difficult, but i’m eating it all up… i’m awake again! my brain is getting rebooted and so is my life.
i’ve got a week and a half to go with this assignment, and i’m pretty stoked. yes, i grunt and groan having to get up at 7:30 every morning, but the work is getting more and more interesting and my wallet is getting fatter and fatter. WOOT!
