see, this is why we’re in a recession!

today, the talent group i’m working with held auditions for dancers at a studio in times square. as we were setting up, we found ourselves in a bit of a tizzy – we had an iPod and a boombox to play music, but nothing to sync the two together. we needed an audio adapter. the management didn’t have one to lend, so we had to hit the streets.

on our way to the port authority radio shack, my friend and i passed a mom and pop electronics store on 8th ave – just a block away from the studio – and figured we’d give them a little look-see since they were so close and it was very windy outside. we told the attendant what we needed, and after a bit of searching in the back, he returned, smiling, with a 6-ft. adapter. perfect! but then, pulling a few bills out of his wallet, my friend inquired about the price, and the response we got damn near sent us into cardiac arrest… $40.00! seriously? you’re kidding, right?

stumped, we looked at each other in a “somethin’ in the milk ain’t right” kinda way, and, together, gave the attendant the side-eye. we are NOT tourists! we know what shit’s supposed to cost. there was no way we were paying $40 for something that should, at most, cost us $10. we expressed our reservations, at which bernie madoff’s cousin lowered his price to $20, telling us in the process that he was giving us a deal. bump that ish! we peaced-out of mom and pop and headed over to radio shack, where we found the same damn piece of equipment for $6.99. 40 dollars, my ass!

stop being so greedy, people! you’re not helping!
