This morning I find myself idly singing, "It's Raining Today" by Scott Walker...despite the sunny weather outside. It's just stuck in my head. I first heard the song on an Art Gallery Tour I went on about a month ago. One of the pieces featured was a claymation video entitled "Mound" by Allison Schulnik, showing at the ZieherSmith Gallery in Chelsea. Of the seven artists we viewed that day, Allison's exhibition was my favorite!

Today I celebrate the 10th anniversary of my move to New York City! Ten years ago today, I packed up three suitcases, filled with my most prized possessions from my 22 years of life, and got on a plane to New York. Words can't express the excitement I felt when that Jet Blue airliner descended toward and touched down at JFK, on what was not a simple vacation or short-term visit, but the beginnings of living the life of my dreams. I mean, dood...my parents ...
When I woke up this morning, I had no idea how I was going to celebrate Thanksgiving. I had 4 open invitations to dinner, but I was indecisive about where I actually wanted to go. I sat on my couch watching the parade wondering if that was all I'd end up doing today. Then I took a shower and my day suddenly came alive. While lathering up- gettin' so fresh and clean- something inside me said, "Wait...don't you love to cook? Isn't this one of your favorite ...
one of my many summertime pleasures is the soul summit music festival in brooklyn. it takes place in ft. greene park on sundays from 3-9pm, and is one serious dance party! many djs come out to spin at this much anticipated yearly extravaganza- attracting the most eclectic mix of people in the spirit of unity and liberation; and amongst them, i get my LIFE dancing and taking in all the positive energy.
my friend, jashiro, and I spent this past sunday ...
to the powers of the universe:
tickets for beyonce's "i am" tour go on sale this monday. while usually ecstatic and jumping off the walls upon hearing such glorious news, this time around i find myself in a bit of a pickle. you see, when i went to see "the beyonce experience" i went both nights it played in madison square garden. i had 7th row seats for the second night and treated my friends to a free show both performances. i lived! i consider myself ...
last night, i took in a delightful little movie by the name of "calendar girls." it stars the wonderfully talented helen mirren, julie walters, and a host of other british actresses who you more than likely know by face only and not by name (or maybe that's just me). i first came across "calendar girls" as a trailer in a movie i netflixed about a week ago- apparently, it came out in 2003. i absolutely LOVE movies set in brittain (it's the scenery and ...
yesterday was a real treat! i ventured uptown to washington heights for my weekly haircut; and headed downtown back to my normal, sexy self; ready for the week ahead. i had an appointment with dr. eyecandy later, so i decided to stay in the city and putz around for a bit. then i remembered a taxi cab video that featured mobile art- a chanel contemporary art container by zaha hadid. i was down!
i decided to make it a starbucks day, so i got myself a ...

despite my reason for being here, i'm so far having a pretty good time in lubbock and slaton, texas. the hardest part is not keeping my mom together after the death of her brother as i initially anticipated; but cleaning out the 2 bedroom house where my uncle lived. he was a bit of a hermit- the place is jam-packed full of boxes, papers and his other belongings. it took me all day yesterday to clean out 1 room, and today we're going back for more.
